Italian foods are some of my favorite foods to enjoy. Pasta tossed with a simple tomato sauce, an elaborately layered oven baked lasagna, ravioli stuffed with cheese, meats and/or veggies, chicken parmesan… great, now I’m hungry and have decided I need to have an Italian meal for dinner at some point in the near future. Back on track… bread is commonly served to compliment many Italian dishes. A warm soft stick of garlic bread or a slice of fresh baked crusty Italian bread dipped in oils and herbs are the popular choices at many restaurants. For today’s Taste Test, I used two different dip mixes to create simple yet delicious breads that would be perfect to serve alongside any Italian meal.
Christmas is just a week away and while harsh winter temperatures haven’t hit our area just yet I’m sure they’ll arrive shortly after the New Year. Along with those cold winter temperatures always come the possibility of snow. While I’m a summer girl at heart I do have fond memories of snow days spent playing outside in the fluffy white powder for hours on end.
Hi Readers! I’m extra excited to share today’s Taste Test Tuesday product with you because it’s one that I feel is an absolute home-run in all categories including taste, versatility and ease of preparation. Drumroll please…
Hello fellow Taste Testers! Have you been enjoying all of the good foods that come along with the Fall season? Apple cider, pumpkin bread, caramel apples, guacamole. What?! Guacamole isn’t on your list of favorite Fall foods? For most people it isn’t, but quite honestly it could easily be added to your repertoire, especially if you’re a football fan.
Last week was such a busy one that Tuesday came and went before I knew it, which is my reason why I’ve kept you in suspense about Maple Dip Mix. If the suspense has been killing you (play along!), be in pain no more as I have finally had a chance to get my hands on this tasty little snack/appetizer/dessert.
This week we’re welcoming in the official start of the Fall season by testing a traditional orchard treat: Spiced Cider. Apple cider wasn’t something that my family enjoyed often and quite honestly I’d prefer a mug of hot chocolate over cider any day. However I know there are many cider fans out there that can’t wait for this time of year to roll around so they can pick up fresh cider from their local orchard.
My morning routine hasn’t changed for as long as I’ve been a part of the working world. Alarm goes off. Press the snooze button. Repeat 3 times. Finally get out of bed. Make myself presentable. Enjoy a large bowl of cereal with milk and fruit.
Cereal has been my go-to breakfast (and occasional dinner) not because it’s easy (ok, well maybe in part because it’s easy), but because I love cereal. It’s crunchy, it’s filling and you get to slurp up the milk when you’re finished. The thought never crossed my mind that there is a world of other easy and delicious breakfast options available to me every day.
Milk. It does a body good. It’s full of calcium and helps build strong bones. Despite all of these benefits, there are still many people who simply don’t enjoy the taste of milk. I am not one of those people. I often enjoy milk with a big bowl of cereal or to wash down a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And of course quite possibly my favorite way to enjoy milk is to pair it with a couple of chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven.

This month, the American Dietetic Association is sponsoring a national nutrition campaign encouraging those across the U.S. to “Eat Right with Color.” This month-long effort is designed to educate Americans about the importance of proper nutrition while focusing on the health benefits that foods of many colors can provide. The ADA claims that a simple way to start a healthy eating program is to add color to your meals. Yellow peppers, green spinach, red tomatoes, orange carrots, purple cabbage and many other vegetables are a perfect example of colorful vegetables that will add nutrients to meals. You can add color and nutrition to your daily diet with many money saving foods found in the bulk food aisle such as nuts, dried fruits and whole grains. Food prices are on the rise this year mainly due to extreme weather conditions around the world. Grain and sugar crops have been hit the hardest, meaning that not only these crops in raw form, but in foods in which they’re used too, will most likely be affected price-wise. Australia, one of the top three sugar exporting countries, experienced extreme flooding. Unusually cold temperatures in India as well as droughts in Brazil and China have also played a factor in the decreased worldwide sugar supply. Wheat and oat prices are going up due in large part to a severe drought in Russia. Extremely wet weather in parts of Canada prevented some oat crops from being planted, which has also affected prices. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to familiarize yourself with the products you can find everyday at a bulk food store near you. These products are high in quality and taste but low in price, allowing you to save money by making a simple switch. Learn more about rising food prices in this article from CBS news.
